Najaar 2024 organiseerden we een succesvol symposium over risicovol spelen. Nu is het tijd voor een vervolg! Dit keer een dagvullend congres met meer tijd voor inspirerende sprekers, praktische sessies én natuurlijk: nóg meer aandacht voor risicovol spelen. We gaan dieper in op hoe het wél kan! We doen dit naar de laatste maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen en vanuit verschillende invalshoeken.

Het Risicovol Spelen Congres: “Hoe kan het wél.”

Ochtend keynote door Dr. Wendy Russel: The trouble with risk

We use the word ‘risk’ in a number of different ways in relation to children. In this talk, I will explore notions of risk, safety, childhood and play and how they are tied up with particular adult ways of knowing. Starting out with a story from an adventure playground, I will draw on our recent review of contemporary research into children’s play, policy and practice (Playing and Being Well) to consider ‘risk’ from the perspectives of playwork, popular discourse and policy. This will be a political endeavour, highlighting the role that late capitalism plays in growing inequalities and why this matters when discussing children’s risk-taking in play. Finally, I will consider what this might mean for our practice in supporting and advocating for children’s play.

 

Dr. Wendy Russell is an independent researcher on children’s play and a Research Fellow at University of Gloucestershire, UK. She has worked in the play field for some 50 years, initially on adventure playgrounds, then in research and education locally, nationally and internationally. Her research focuses on policy, the politics of space and ethics.

Dr. Martin van Rooijen: De pedagogische dimensie van risicovol spelen

Bij risicovol spelen staat het perspectief van het kind centraal, het wil en kan zelf de uitdaging aangaan waar het op dat moment aan toe is. Dat roept de vraag op welke rol de opvoeder heeft bij het faciliteren en begeleiden van risicovol spelen. 'Actief niets doen' is de basis waarbij de drie psychologische basisbehoeften van het kind centraal staan: competentie, autonomie en relatie. Vanuit theorie en praktijk zal ik een pedagogische onderbouwing geven voor het wederzijdse vertrouwen dat nodig is tussen opvoeder en kind om het de tijd en ruimte te geven voor het vrij en risicovol spelen.

Meynell Walter: Knowing what Play and Playwork are

I will be exploring what play is by thinking about our own play and how this fits with the playwork principles and use them to understand the role of the playwork as an approach to working with children. I will explore what play might be and the role of the adult in supporting it. I will make conclusions about the nature of play  and discuss the individual yet universal nature of play. Finally, I will undertake a detailed examination of the role of the playworker  and reflect on playwork practice in relation to the accepted role of the playworker.

 

Dr. Martin van Rooijenis pedagoog en recent gepromoveerd aan de Universiteit voor Humanistiek in Utrecht. Hij draagt zijn visie over vrij en risicovol spelen uit door trainingen voor opvoeders en Spelen met Spullen voor kinderen via 'De Blauwe Ton’.

Meynell Walter is a playworker, playwork trainer, and playwork advocate. He has been working with children and young adults in various capacities for 53 years and is still working as a playworker on an adventure playground.
Meynell is a radical maverick, blessed with a light touch of arrogance and whilst some people find him a little ‘brusque’ or ‘argumentative’ you can be assured that whatever his manner or approach his passion about children’s play will shine through.
